Discussion

How to get started
  • A Google document will take you step by step, How to Edit the Wiki; message Mary S for a link.
  • NMfG quotations only, no original content --Mary s (talk) 16:36, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
Needs on the wiki
A-Z review for needs:
--skimpy pages or references weighted toward any or all of these earlier books WV1 & 2, GCS, RHP, LTW: search the website for other revelations that offer additional insight (if no new insight, place the quote or title on the talk page ("Discussion" tab at top beside "Page"); Examine for generic headers such as "Excerpts" or "longer [or shorter] quotes" (ok if it includes the keyword, e.g. "short quotes about love")
--super-bulky pages needing splitting: take a section, simplify the name and take the whole section to a new page (watch for shared references (<ref name=" ">) to fill in as needed.
--check all pages to make sure they include
  • Categories;
  • "See also";
  • "Further Study";
  • graphic interest (image and layout--organized from most simple to most detail);
  • quotes aligned with the headings, headings using New Message terminology (replace with direct words from quotes).---Mary s (talk) 16:36, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Formatting References

PROPER FORMATTING IS NOT REQUIRED OR NECESSARY! Contributions are vital; the hypertext formatting code is not.

General guidelines
  • Please give the name and date of the revelation if not assigned as a chapter in a book, formatting is optional
  • The Book and chapter if published in a Volume of The One Book--Mary s (talk) 16:36, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Discussion pages

Use these for additional quotes that

  • duplicate what is on the Page; ok to post the title of the revelation with a reference, with or without posting the quote.
  • do include the word for the page but the context is not strictly pertinent to that word; do add these quotes.
  • have no need to format the references with all the mark-ups

Pages needing administrator

Categories
Best to check with a Society member such as Will before creating new categories, calling for any suggestions. I wonder if a series could be added with the words "Quotes About" to break down topics covered by the New Message --Mary s (talk) 16:36, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Main Page The corridors need to link to categories, right? Following example of category:God ? Categories are listed on help page (search box only brings up 9 of 11). Alternatively, my preference actually, a "see also" link at the bottom of the corridor's main entrance, the page of that title. ::I'm not sure about this.-WillWikiAdmin 18:31, 23 November 2011 (PST) :::A "see also" is redundant; clicking on the category itself opens the category page. --Mary s 19:25, 23 November 2011 (PST) ::::Better if the corridor links go to pages instead of categories. I'll change that. I don't think "See also" is redundant, since it's tailored page by page to take people to closely related pages that may not be in the same category.-WillWikiAdmin 18:35, 7 December 2011 (PST) :::::Sorry, the redundant "see also" I meant was to list a category page under a "see also" heading-- Mary s 20:42, 7 December 2011 (PST)

Longer quotes

Succinct is best, 2 paragraphs or less is desirable. If longer than one verse, use <blockquote> </blockquote> and watch for Will's concern below that quotes don't get separated.---Mary s (talk) 16:36, 20 April 2020 (UTC) If the material is more than one paragraph, use opening quotation marks for each paragraph but closing quotation marks only at the end.--Mary s 18:59, 16 November 2011 (PST)

Yes please. However, I'm concerned there may be places in the wiki where multiple quotes from the same chapter have been linked with an unclosed quotation. I may have even followed that a few times by merging disparate quotes into a single paragraph!Will 09:33, 8 December 2011 (PST)

::Note: based on Will's concern (and the perplexing difficulty sometimes in locating a quote missing its attribution!), it is o.k. to combine paragraphs in order to avoid the chance they might get separated or any question arise about the source of a paragraph. Not only o.k., it is needful. The only exception has been where formatting tools rearrange the text on the read page but the edit page clearly contains the excerpt as a unity, with no paragraph breaks.Mary s (talk) 10:18, 25 September 2016 (PDT) What do you say we tighten up the quotations with lots of white space? --Mary s 20:07, 16 November 2011 (PST) :Please yesWikiAdmin 18:34, 23 November 2011 (PST) When I quote an excerpt that straddles paragraphs, I combine them ignoring the paragraph break.--Mary s 20:07, 16 November 2011 (PST) :Please yesWikiAdmin 18:34, 23 November 2011 (PST) When copying from other sources and pasting onto wiki, a couple things (so far) to watch: 1) two hyphens does not equal an mdash in wikiscript. You will need to replace them with code: ampersand, mdash, semicolon — find it on chart at help page for formatting). 2) In passages with quotation marks, change them to apostrophes. --Mary s 12:40, 17 November 2011 (PST) :I feel that two hyphens will do in a pinch. It can be later cleaned up with a search, right? It needs to remain easy for people to pop the wiki open, drop in an excellent quote, and leave, without worrying about syntax. And yes, a real mdash will look better and be easier to read.WikiAdmin 18:34, 23 November 2011 (PST) :::I was wrong about using two hyphens; they do seem to join now (in an ndash, i guess, but ok, ok).
